Sunday Special | Part 1 of TRIPOM USA

Trainees with an interest in perioperative medicine (TRIPOM) is an ever growing organisation set to continue the global push for perioperative care. This high energy podcast gives you a taste of the enthusiasm people pick up as they learn more about the value of these ideas. The focus here is on promoting healthy aging across two primary domains: cognitive function and physical ability. Discover how multiple features of aging—including physical and cognitive decline—are strongly associated with the bioenergetic profiles of circulating cells. Could the ability to diagnose mitochondrial health address central challenges in geriatric medicine, such as the need for personalized health care based on an individual’s unique physiology and “biological age”? How does this gripping research impact upon our work during the perioperative period? Co-Presented by Rob Schiller MD, Temple University School of Medicine and Anaeshesia, resident at Duke University and Vice-Chair of TRIPOM USA and Bridger Back MD, University of Utah School of Medicine and Anaesthesia resident at Duke University and Chair of TRIPOM USA. This podcast features a talk from Anthony J. Molina, PhD, Associate Professor, Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine. It also contains a contribution from John Whittle, assistant Professor at Duke University Medical Centre and one of the founders of TRIPOM.

COVID 19 | Obstetrics in the pandemic

“Babies are still being born” Still! Revisiting this conversation from early in the pandemic, we discuss obstetrics during COVID. This piece looks at the area of obstetrics in the midst of an unprecedented global crisis regarding the COVID 19 outbreak. How can the delicate balance between reducing infections and social distancing be interwoven with the needs of modern childbirth. Should we be concerned that some patients may shun hospital assisted births for fear of contagion? How has the data from China, much of which focused upon cesarean section births, been useful to us in the West? Why do the data have that angle? Are there benefits to the new ways in which we have found to communicate during this global crisis which can be moved into a new life with COVID present but in a more manageable form? Presented by Desiree Chappell and Monty Mythen with Sam Bampoe, University College London Hospital, Consultant Anesthetist, Director, Trainees with an Interest in Perioperative Medicine (TRIPOM), Nuala Lucas, Consultant Anesthetist at Northwick Park Hospital, Executive Committee Member for the Obstetric Anesthetists’ association and Pat O’Brien, Consultant Obstetrician at University College London Hospital, Vice President of Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
