Breaking Boundaries of Perioperative Care in the Elderly

21st General Scientific Meeting (GSM) of Singapore Society of Anaesthesiologists. This meeting is held in conjunction with the General Scientific Meetings of the Society of Geriatric Medicine of Singapore and the Geriatric Surgery Society of Singapore, and it gives us great pleasure to invite you to EBPOM Asia 2019.

EBPOM-Asia 2019 will take place at the Academia-Singapore General Hospital and Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre. This unique event brings together anaesthesiologists, surgeons and geriatricians in a collaboration to improve the care and outcomes for our patients. It is with great pleasure our three societies welcome EBPOM International, a large network of international academic institutions that exists to promote the examination, discussion and application of evidence based medicine to perioperative care. This collaboration will enable EBPOM-Asia 2019 to feature and network with internationally renowned clinicians and researchers, who will share, discuss and debate new developments and controversial topics that impacts our daily practice.

Under the theme “Breaking Boundaries of Perioperative Care in the Elderly” the scientific program of EBPOM-Asia 2019 will focus on the medical needs of the aging surgical patient with a high incidence of chronic diseases and reduced physiological reserve. As more elderly patients undergo surgery, new approaches are required to improve surgical outcome, contain healthcare costs and facilitate rapid return to the community. This will require patient-centric, team-based management of the surgical patient; identification and optimisation of the frail and at-risk; and specialised enhanced recovery programmes for the elderly.

Furthermore, the 21st GSM of Singapore Society of Anaesthesiologists will continue to feature new advances in all subspecialties of anesthesiology such as pediatric, obstetrics, cardiac, neuro and transplant anesthesia. No effort will be spared to make the scientific programme for the EBPOM-Asia 2019, exciting, productive and a major learning event for surgeons, anaesthetists, physicians, nurses and allied health personnel locally and internationally.

The EBPOM-Asia 2019 will also provide an open space for discussion and exchange of ideas.
